In 2009, Central and Eastern Europe is commemorating the 20th anniversary of its countries’ transitions to democracy. The International Centre for Democratic Transition (ICDT), in cooperation with the Budapest-based Embassies of Austria, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the United States, organized a conference gathering Central and Eastern European and foreign politicians, historians, and diplomats who provided their authentic memories of the historical events of 1989.
